Hi there Michael, and welcome to the Owner's Forum. I am sure you will find it a useful source of ideas, help and advice when you need it.
In the nicest possible way I hope you are enjoying running your new-to-you GSI (..In my humble opinion, a very underestimated Zafira that is great fun to drive...) and that you don't get landed with problems which would mean that we see many, if any, urgent 'help-type' posts from you in the near future..!!  Happy Motoring..!!
Incidentally, if you have any queries about anything Zafira related, you can always type a question into the 'search' box at the top of the page and see what other members have had to say on the subject in the past - that can sometimes be very useful to solve well-known niggles.  Welcome aboard. Cheers... Robin

Remote Central Locking Keys not working

Hi there... If the central locking is working with one of the keys, then I don't think that the central locking itself is at fault.
When Vauxhall supply a new car, in addition to the normal remote-locking key(s) with the batteries in them, you always used to get a coloured plastic 'emergency' key which would open the driver's door manually, so you can get into the car, but it doesn't have the immobilizer chip ID in it that would allow you to start the car.  If the central locking opens with this key, manually, I would bet that the fault is with the other remote key.
When you changed the battery, did you effect the change within the Two & a Half minutes time-period specified by Vauxhall..?? If it was any longer, the key can lose its electrical identity, and have to be re-programmed & re-synchronised to the car.
Also, it is possible to dislodge the battery holders when you change the battery, and loosen the small connector pins that hold the holder to the circuit board.  Again, the key remote will not work, but it should unlock the car door manually OK.  These connections can be carefully re-soldered to the circuit board with a pencil-bit soldering iron, but then the key will need to be re-programmed.  This 're-programming'  task can be done with OpCom, if you have one.  Best of luck... Let us know how you get on... Cheers.. Robin

Hi there Adrian...
Delighted to see that you finally managed to get your heater problem fixed by fitting the new control switch.  I hope it didn't prove to be too difficult a task in the end..!
I guess you were just unlucky, as these don't often give any trouble. This is the first one I can remember hearing about for years on the forum..!  Cheers.. Robin

Brian, I am totally shocked Shocked

My car has only been off the road for a week for a failed MOT/brake problem - so far.  A friend of mine was going to buy a car from Go Vauxhall but luckily they couldn't supply the car he wanted - he told me today he was so glad he didn't have to deal with them, knowing my experience, let alone yours Confused - I am going to send him a link to your story.  I hope they resolve your car problems in your favour.

Remote Central Locking Keys not working

Hi again...
I'm not sure from your description whether the "folding" key, which you say is 'not working', is just not working with the central locking system, or with the locking system AND the starting of the car.
There are two quite separate systems inside the radio keys... The security Immobilizer chip and the Remote locking wireless transmitter.  When you say it is 'not working' - do you mean BOTH functions..??  Because if that is what is happening, that is a quite different scenario.  While the remote Locking may be playing up and not working, you should still be able to use that same key to unlock the door Manually, i.e, by putting the key into the door lock and physically turning it.  If you can get into the car fine, using that key, but then nothing happens when you put that same key into the ignition, then you have a different problem that putting in a new fob battery will not solve.  The passive Immobilizer chip housed inside the key 'talks' to the active Immobilizer Unit in the steering column when the key is inserted into the ignition switch, to make sure that the key in the ignition is a legal one for this car. Only when this electronic handshake has taken place will you be able to start the car with a correct key..!! If it is an immobilizer problem I would be quite surprised that it has happened on a relatively new car like yours, and would suspect either that the chip may be faulty or that something extreme has happened to the key... You haven't dropped it onto a strong magnet by mistake - or had it in your pocket when undergoing am MRI scan in a hospital..?? These diagnostic machines use a strong concentrated magnetic field to make them work, which can have an adverse effect on sensitive items...!  Just a thought..!
Best of luck getting it sorted out.... Cheers.. Robin

Zafira GSI Questions

Poor running on startup

Hi guys, you need to get the fault codes read by pedal test or someone with OPCOM. That will point you towards any possible fixes. When you have them, post them here and then the experts will be able to offer you advice.

In the meantime it costs nothing to give the throttle body/air filter/ vacuum hoses a good clean this can be an issue giving running problems.

Good luck

Hi Robin I should have made it clear The key is only not working the Central Locking system it is working fine in the ignition.
So I'm fairly certain that the battery connection is the problem with this key, but as the other key is working anyway there is now no urgency to fix the key
Thank you for your help and advice its really appreciated

Ive seen this issue before on the 1.8 engines and its usually due to a defective MAF sensor. these engines will only run correctly with GM/siemens MAF. Cheap aftermarket rubbish never works correctly and often causes EML to come on.

Nope, still waiting !
Gear box is starting to play up again, with over 3K for a new one (and radiator) you would think it should be OK, well it's not.

Been advised to see how the gear box goes over the next few weeks before I take further civil action against them, makes my case even stronger !

As I have said before, more than happy to give full details and paper work to prove just how terrible they are to anyone.

intermittent loss of power steering  on a diesel auto zafira 10 plate. fluid level is OK

when the assisance is lost the lights flicker and the battery voltage measured at the lighter socket fluctuates 11.5 /13.5 volts but the alternator lightdoes not come on.

switching every possible electrical load on at an idle so the alternator is not able to keep up and the voltage falls does not cause the steering to fail, at 12volt the steering is still working albeit slower and moving the wheel causes the voltage to fall as low as 11.5 with the steering still providing some asistance

possibly related or not I notice that while sitting with the transmission in drive and the engine iding it occasionally gives a"clunk" as if the clutch had been disengaged and re-engaged

any suggestions?

poor dab reception from cd400

Hi everyone, although new here, I'm not new to owning Vauxhall! After 4 and a bit years of owning a 2008 zafira elite 1.9,150ps I changed it for a 2012 zafira tourer se 2.0, 130ps. Main reason for changing, whining of gearbox was starting to sound serious, along with list of other faults and fed up of egr and dpf!! Anyway so far so good, apart from dab reception. I have an '05 Astra h with cdc 40 and it is superb. Tourer 's cd400 great on fm, pathetic on dab where Astra works perfect. Tourer has shark fin/rear window aerial.
Wondered if changing aerial would help??

Had two batteries in a bubble pack both 3V same as the original ones in keys.
Am I re-programming them wrong.
Put them in the Ignition and turn on but not running the engine, then press the lock button on the remote to programme them.

Hi again...
If you are sure that the battery is good and is delivering the correct voltage, I suggest you go back to my original post and the question, "...did you take more than 2 1/2 minutes to take out the old battery and put the new battery into the key fob..??"  If you did, it won't just be a question of re-synchronising the key to the remote mechanism... it will have to be completely re-programmed to talk to the immobilizer unit inside the steering column as well.  This you can do yourself with OpCom, or have done at a local Vauxhall Dealer.  Cheers.. A scrap yards your best bet. They are not available seperatly from VX unless you buy a loom. Id just go the scrappy with a pair of cutters and cut one off a loom.

Hi. Open the website above and change the language to English. Then in the vin box put your chassis code which you can find on your logbook or the left hand side of your windscreen. That will bring all the relavent items to your car and if you go in the parts side ofor it will give you the part no of your gearbox. I use this website all the time.
