1.6 diesel ecoflex - oil life

I have just taken delivery of a tourer with the above engine. A couple of days into ownership I came across the 'remaining oil life' display.
The car had done about 60 miles (including delivery ) and the figure showing was 82%!
As you can imagine I was puzzled by this and ask the dealer to check it out. Predictably they said everything was OK but they have given me no satisfactory explanation for the situation. They told me that the figure reduces each month irrespective of mileage ('by around 8%'). On this basis it seems to me that the oil quality will reach zero before the first annual service is due (I do around 17000 miles a year with a large part of that on fast roads).
What are the experiences of people who had vehicles with 'remaining oil life' displays for a longer period?

Im going to assume its a Zafira A with X16XEL or Z16XE. If you open the bonnet and look down the side of the engine were the belt is you will see the sensor screwed into the side of the thermostat housing.

There was a issue with most of the VX range which was caused by loose connections inside the plug. It often lead to stalling, erratic idling and P0115 being logged. VX do a uprated plug with gold tipped pins. They are about £15 from VX and require the old plug to be cut off and a new one fitted. I had to do this to my own car as it would occasionally stall when driving. I came across this problem after driving with opcom connected and recording until it stalled. Once it stall I could go back over all the data and there it was. The coolant temperature/voltage was erratic when the stall happened. Also I had NO fault codes when it was happening to me.

The wiring connector upgrade is VX #93174557
The temperature sensor upgrade for Z16XE is #93174208

Strangely the service bulletin does not mention X16XEL

Hi there pjnumberone... Welcome to the Owner's Forum. I hope you find it a useful source of ideas, help and advice.
With regard to your current problem, there are a number of fault conditions that can set off the spanner light and Limp Home mode. The most usual one is the EGR valve becoming clogged up with soot and grunge and then it needs to be taken out and simply cleaned up - not a difficult job, but quite a messy one..!  But that is usually accompanied by an error Code in the 0400 region...
With the codes you have, it sounds as though you are getting either a boost pressure sensor problem or an intake air temperature reading that's wrong or intermittent.
Another member recently posted an interesting fix for these codes which entailed cleaning the contacts of the boost pressure sensor, which apparently has some bearing on the temperature reading of the air intake AFTER the intercooler, NOT before it. (That's done by the MAF unit which is situated in the intake pipe just after the Air filter Box)
Try taking the connection off the boost pressure sensor, which is situated on the top, right hand end of the inlet manifold, as you look into the engine bay from in front of the car, and carefully cleaning the connector spades and the connections in the boost sensor, and then push/pull it on and off a couple of times to "clean" the electrical contacts. They can become oxidised over time and give intermittent readings back to the ECU.  Hopefully that will be a cure for you...  Let us know how you get on...
Cheers... Robin

Hi there Alan. Welcome to the Owner's Forum, I hope you will find it a useful source of ideas, help and advice.
When you buy a new Vauxhall, all the electronically driven timed reminders, such as the "Service Due" "Oil Change reminder" etc. etc. are started running on the assembly line before the vehicle leaves the factory, so depending on how long it is before you take delivery of the car, there can be anything up to around 5 or 6 months worth of 'Time' already added to the readouts.  Another forum member recently had the "InSP" reminder come up at around 4000 miles, when it wasn't really due until 10,000 miles! But these reminders can always be reset to a current 'start time' if required...
Remember that you can always type a question into the search box at the top of the forum page, and see what others have had to say about things...
Cheers... Robin.

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the info - it had occurred to me that that might be the explanation. So ,in cases where the reminder appears early , do the main dealers expect the customer to pay to have the work done at that time or do they merely reset the reminder? Also do you know whether it is the case that the oil condition reminder will read 0% after 12 months irrespective of mileage because I am trying to understand why I should have to have this work done before I have had the car for a year.

Hi there...
If you disconnect the battery completely from the car and the cd30, the display will revert to saying SAFE and you will most probably have to input the Radio Code when you re-connect it to get it to work again. There is a separate wire that connects to the battery live all the time to keep the unit from locking up. You should have the correct Radio Code for the unit on the credit-card sized piece of card that was supplied with the vehicle and has your VIN number and other details on it.
I'm sure that I have seen a posting here on the forum about not needing a radio code, and I have heard a vague rumour that there is a way to tell the cd30 unit that it should not need to have a code inputted every time the voltage is removed from the locking input, but I have never managed to do it correctly, and I always have to input the code if I disconnect the battery.  Cheers.... Robin.

Hi Alan... I would think that you need to bring this to the attention of the dealer, because if you ignore the warning and subsequently try to claim anything under warranty, they will throw back at you the fact that you didn't have the oil change done "as per the manufacturers schedule" and may use that fact to argue against paying for any relevant warranty work.
Cheers.... Robin

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the help offered. The trouble is I do not have a code because on the card you refer to the "radio code" box is blank. I also have heard that no code is needed - as the audio is electronically locked to the display and therefore cannot be used in any other vehicle - that's its security.
I would really like to know for sure, as I don't want the expense of going to a Vauxhall dealer.
Thanks again - Nomde.

Hi again... I cannot tell you for certain what the situation is with your cd30 as I have never had one. My 2.0 has the cd500 unit which is linked to the info display and sets the car clock via the RDS system, but I stillhave to input a code..!!
Perhaps there is another forum member reading this who can give you some actual first-hand knowledge..??
Cheers... Robin.

HELP REQD: Twin Audio and Power Port on Zafira Cap

Sorry for the late reply! The twin audio on the new Zafira Capital has come back incompatible both from Vauxhall and main Dealer and came back to me unconnected!

I was surprised Vauxhall could not give an immediate answer for compatibility rather speak to dealer and see what is going on alongside technical dept to give an answer after some time! As it is a special order item they will not take it back!!

So I am selling the twin audio unit, and cover if anyone is interested with reasonable offers around £100 for both exc. P&P with main dealer receipts if you like. I will see if I can do this on For sale part of this forum.

Thanks again Robin. My dealer is aware of the issue. I was curious to know whether other owners had had the same experience and if so what response they had received from the dealer / Vauxhall (who it would appear have caused the problem).
