<QUOTE=spyder> Modern auto's do not have the same power sapping characteristics as their older counterparts</quote>

I agree completely. My 2001 Rover 25 has a lovely gearbox.

<QUOTE=spyder> I prefer diesels for this type of vehicle, where the torque and torque band makes the car easier to drive, especially for an auto. <quote>

This was my thinking too. After all, that's why all the big trucks are diesel and not petrol :) But reading about the diesel problems/maintenance issues makes me wonder if this is a false economy. I'm a computer programmer. I don't really do hardware :) and same goes for mechanics. I could do it if I had the time, tools and a step by step manual. But other than that, I'm what you'd term a "bodger" and have enough knowledge to be dangerous LOL.

<QUOTE=spyder>By the way the heater/blower resistors on your 25 cost about £7 and a 10 minute job to change-behind the cubby-hole.

Thanks! I didn't realise it was that simple to be honest. I'd come across the posts and glazed over them because my car didn't have the problem at the time. But my poor Rover now has several other issues which I won't polute this thread with :)

I'd still appreciate some info on the service intervals etc. Thanks.
