Thanks for your two-penneth on this Stewart51. I'm very much in agreement with you.
To be fair, I don't think the garage have directly linked the water pump and Turbo; rather have intimated at a leak at the water pump and the possibility of one at the Turbo.
To be honest I'm not very mechanically minded but they said they'd have a better idea about the leak on the turbo when they get at it!
We've gone from a very gentle loss of water (we're talking drops of a couple of cms in the res over a couple of months) to the system seemingly having more leaks than Southern Water.
It just doesn't feel right to me - hence the questions on here. Having done a bit of reading I'm asking myself if they are referring to an oil or air leak from the turbo on top of the water leak.
Either way, tomorrow will reveal all. The garage are calling wifey with the results of their investigation and I'm going to try and Skype into the conversation.
Right now I'm happy for them to proceed with the water pump, cam belt and tensioner replacement (as that sets us up for 40k miles on that front) but without very good, and clear, reasons they will not be touching the turbo.
Thanks for your input and if there's anyone else willing to try and clear my befuddled mind I'd gladly accept the help - especially around what I should be asking them to clear up any possible turbo issue.
