Hi there... There are a couple of variations down the years of the EGR valve, but your 2001 2.0dti probably has a vacuum operated valve sitting in the middle, on the top of the inlet manifold right infront of you as you look at the engine. It is held in place by x2 Torx type bolts. Pull off the vacuum tube from the side, undo the x2 bolts and pull the valve straight out of the manifold. It has a long mushroom headed stalk which mates with the circular opening on the inside of the manifold. This stalk should move in and out of the housing, but you may find it caked up with soot and carbon. Soak it in carb cleaner or parafin and work the valve stalk in and out of the housing until it can remain out by the internal spring pressure. You may also have to clean out the inside of the manifold, and clean off the flap valves which are opened and shut by a second vacuum actuator on the right hand end of the block. But try the EGR valve first - once it can operate freely, you should get some oomph back! Good luck and Happy Christmas! Robin.
