Hope this helps. The poor heater could be due to an air lock. Gasses could be introduced into the water from an internal cracking in the head. Mine was like this about 3 years ago. I used steel seal which a added to the header tank. K seal is no good. Or you could go the whole hog and take the head off and get it pressure tested to be sure. Get a leak test done on it from a reputable garage just to be safe. A good garage will know what to do. I had exactly the same problem as you did. It will all come clear after after a leak test is done.
